Ocean Basket Is Back at N1 City Mall – And It Feels Like Home

Ocean Basket is very sentimental to me. The first time I ever ate seafood was at an Ocean Basket in Rondebosch back in my varsity days, and from that moment, it became a little tradition. To this day, just the thought of their mussels and prawns makes my mouth water. Over the years, their menu has expanded, and while I have many favourites, those two dishes still reign supreme for me.

As someone who travels frequently across the country by road, it’s always exciting to know that a reliable, delicious seafood stop is there when I need it. That’s why the recent reopening of Ocean Basket at N1 City Mall on 15 August was such a thrill. Returning to the same location, it brought back the generous portions and lemon-buttery goodness that kept everyone coming back, now ready to welcome old fans and new ones alike. Whether it’s a quick weekday bite or a leisurely weekend lunch, the restaurant delivers the warm welcome and trusted quality that has made Ocean Basket a household name for over three decades.

With its signature mix of laid-back atmosphere, great value, and fresh ocean flavours, Ocean Basket continues to be the go-to choice for seafood fans. After four years away, its homecoming in N1 City Mall marks a fresh chapter in the brand’s journey and a tasty comeback for Cape Town’s northern suburbs.

For someone like me, who has always cherished those flavours and moments, it’s more than just a reopening, it’s a return to a beloved tradition.
