There’s nothing quite like finding a pair of jeans that truly see you. For me, stepping into my curves again has been more than just about style—it’s about embracing my identity as a Zulu woman and honouring the body that carries me. And what better moment to declare that love than ahead of one of the most stylish weekends of the year? With the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Monza, Italy just around the corner, I can already picture myself rocking the new Levi’s® 501® Curve in the paddock lounge, pairing iconic denim with my own timeless twist.
The wait is finally over: Levi’s® officially launched the 501® Curve in South Africa on 8 August 2025, with actress, style icon, and activist Nomzamo Mbatha returning as the face of Levi’s® Curvy and debuting this fresh evolution of the classic jean.
To mark the launch, Levi’s® hosted an intimate brunch where guests got a first look at the 501® Curve and connected over conversations around style, fit, and identity. Later that evening, the celebrations continued with the Levi’s® V&A Waterfront store relaunch, where Nomzamo unveiled another colourway of the 501® Curve—proof that this denim moment is only getting bigger.
So, what makes the 501® Curve different? Staying true to the original blueprint, this reimagined version keeps the high rise, button fly, and straight leg, but adds thoughtful updates. The contoured hip-to-waist ratio eliminates the dreaded back gap, while extra room in the seat and thigh ensures a sculpted yet comfortable fit. It’s denim that flatters without compromise designed for women whose curves tell their own story.
“We went through many variations and wear-tests to land on this shape, and we feel that it’s a truly authentic 501® jean imbued with Levi’s® DNA, but for a curvy body that might not have been able to find the right fit with our other 501® fits,” says Jill Guenza, VP of Women’s Apparel Design at Levi’s®. “It’s an exceptional moment in our history.”
For Nomzamo, this moment carries personal weight. Her journey with Levi’s® began back in her university days as a brand promoter, and now, as the face of the 501® Curve, she returns to the brand as a global icon.
“What an incredible series of events to officially launch the 501® Curve in South Africa,” says Nomzamo. “Surrounded by some of the coolest, most authentic and dynamic people—content creators, fashion voices, and influencers in South Africa—it felt like a true celebration. The 501® Curve makes sense for our women who want to celebrate their curves. To be the face of not only the Curvy range but also the 501® Curve locally is a huge honour.”
