Darryl Erasmus Takes on New Role as Chief Operating Officer of South African Tourism

South African Tourism (SAT) has officially welcomed Darryl Erasmus as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective January 7. Erasmus, a well-known industry figure with a rich background in tourism and hospitality, steps into this pivotal role to oversee SAT’s Corporate Services functions and drive the localisation of global strategies within the country.

As COO, Erasmus will work closely with SAT’s internal business units to ensure smooth and efficient operations, while focusing on enhancing the competitiveness of South Africa’s tourism sector. He will play a crucial role in ensuring that SAT’s strategic objectives are effectively implemented across all levels of the organisation.

A Wealth of Expertise and Leadership Experience

Erasmus returns to SAT with a wealth of experience from his previous role as the Chief Quality Assurance Officer in the Tourism Grading Council business unit. Over the years, he has gained significant expertise in the tourism, hospitality, and corporate communications sectors, having worked in senior marketing, sales, and leadership positions with renowned brands such as Travelport, Protea Hotels, and InterContinental.

His leadership extended to his tenure as Managing Director of BLAZE Integrated Hospitality Marketing, where he demonstrated his strategic capabilities. Most recently, Erasmus served as a director of DAX Advisory Services, providing advisory and consulting services to commercial operations in the tourism and hospitality sectors.

Expressing his enthusiasm about returning to SAT, Erasmus shared, “I’m excited to be rejoining SAT – returning to an organisation for which I have a deep affinity and personal connection.
