The anticipation is building as we approach Meetings Africa 2025, the premier Pan-African business events trade show set to take place from 24 to 26 February 2025 at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
Yesterday, 28 January, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange hosted the Meetings Africa 2025 media launch event, setting the stage for what promises to be a game-changing year for Africa’s business events industry.
A Catalyst for Economic Growth
Meetings Africa has proven its value as an economic driver, with the 2024 event contributing R420 million to South Africa’s economy. This year’s edition is expected to build on that success, connecting African business events product owners with influential global buyers.
Tourism Minister Honourable Patricia de Lille emphasized the event’s role in unlocking Africa’s opportunities through quality connections. Acting Johannesburg Mayor Mlungisi Mabaso highlighted its impact on job creation and township economies, further solidifying the city’s reputation as Africa’s business events hub.
Showcasing Africa’s Strength in Business Events
During the launch event, key industry leaders engaged in discussions about leveraging Africa’s unique offerings for global business events. Panelists included:
- Nombulelo Guliwe, CEO of South African Tourism
- Barba Gaoganediwe, Head of Destination Marketing and Communication at Gauteng Tourism Authority
- Rick Taylor, CEO of The Tourism Company
- Glenton De Kock, CEO of SAACI
- Gwen Ncube, Director for Stakeholder Relations at STEA
They stressed the importance of using business events as a tool for economic transformation, supporting SMMEs, and strengthening Africa’s global positioning in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) industry.
