As a passionate lover of jazz, I am beyond thrilled for what promises to be an unforgettable experience! MarumoFemme has just announced a major—and deeply symbolic—venue change for the highly anticipated Heroines of Jazz 2025. Originally set for the Shades of Summer Boutique Hotel, the event will now take place at the historic Women’s Jail at Constitution Hill on Sunday, 27 April 2025. The timing couldn’t be more perfect, as it beautifully aligns with Freedom Day, adding even more depth to an already powerful gathering.
This move is not just about logistics; it’s a deliberate and strategic partnership with Constitution Hill, one of South Africa’s most profound landmarks of resistance, remembrance, and renewal. The Women’s Jail, once home to anti-apartheid heroines like Winnie Madikizela-Mandela, has been transformed into a vibrant cultural space—making it an ideal setting to honour the legacy of women in jazz and liberation movements.
The incredible lineup remains unchanged, featuring headline performances by jazz luminaries Siya Makuzeni, Gabi Motuba, MoAfrika wa Mokgathi, and the soulful ensemble Iphupho L’ka Biko. True to the MarumoFemme spirit, the event will also feature their signature DJ sets and a specially curated market showcasing Creative Hub SMMEs.
“We are honoured to host this year’s edition of Heroines of Jazz at Constitution Hill – one of South Africa’s most profound sites of memory. It’s not just a venue, but a sacred ground,” says Mamello Pule, Managing Director of MarumoFemme. “This further solidifies why Heroines of Jazz is regarded more than just a concert, but a tribute to matriarchs of music, innovators, and torch-bearers of heritage.”
Pule adds, “This move amplifies our purpose for the event, which is to honour the voices, resilience, and artistry of Women in Jazz. It further allows us to centre the stories of women in our freedom journey while immersing audiences in music, history, and spirit.”
With Constitution Hill’s Women’s Jail offering a space where memory meets music, Heroines of Jazz 2025 promises to be a truly moving celebration of freedom, feminine power, and cultural legacy.
