Between the Palms and the Prawns

A solo stay wrapped in stillness, scent, and soul

I arrived at The President Hotel in Bantry Bay just as the light softened, greeted by a warm concierge and a bottle of chilled Chenin Blanc, my favourite. Paired with artisanal chocolates, it was an unexpected welcome I hadn’t known I needed.

The suite was more apartment than hotel room, with clean, modern finishes, a full kitchen, spacious lounge, and the luxury of space. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed swaying palms, the pool glistened below, and beyond that, the Atlantic shimmered.

That evening, I drew a lavender bath not just to unwind, but because lavender had become symbolic on this trip of softness, release. Slipping into silky pajamas, glass in hand, soul music carried me into stillness. This moment was sacred, just for me.

Later, I savored the hotel’s burger, juicy, layered, exactly what my body needed after the buzz of Steenberg earlier that day. It satisfied both lunch and dinner cravings. Then I simply exhaled.

The next day, rain kissed Cape Town as I slipped on pink heels, a go-to trench, and a local designer top, soft glam for a soft life.

At the V&A Waterfront, Marble Cape Town welcomed me like royalty. Dining solo was powerful and intentional. I ordered wood-fired prawns, fresh, fragrant, unforgettable, and a nougat ice cream sandwich, a dessert worthy of a frame. Another glass of Chenin complemented the oceanic, endless view and elevated energy.

Back at the hotel, I declined a township invitation not out of disdain, but because it wasn’t my vibe. Instead, I traded heels for sneakers and walked the beach, collecting seashells, praying, and tossing a coin into the ocean with whispered promises. That stroll felt spiritual.

The Close
That suite above Bantry Bay wasn’t just a stop on my itinerary; it was where I found my way back to myself. After a love that drained me and a season that tested every part of me, I discovered a gentler strength between the palms and the prawns. A strength I carry with me now, ready to step into the next chapter of my journey, one that stretches beyond borders, full of possibility and quiet resilience.
