As I plan my upcoming trip to Cape Town, a few spots have made it onto my travel bucket list and right at the top are The President Hotel in Bantry Bay and its gorgeous in-house eatery, Botany Café. I’ve heard nothing but great things, and with their latest culinary addition, I’m even more excited to visit.
Known for its fresh, vibrant salads and sandwiches during the day, Botany Café is now transforming its evenings with the launch of an indulgent new dessert bar experience. From 6 PM to 10 PM daily, the café invites guests to slow down and savour a wide selection of sweet delights, artisanal coffee, and their much-talked-about house-made pistachio kunafa chocolate.
The new dessert bar menu rotates frequently and includes gourmet treats like frangipane, brownies, macarons, verrines, tarts, gateaux and even ice cream, with prices starting from as little as R20. Whether you’re after a rich end to your meal or just looking to indulge your sweet tooth, there’s something for every dessert lover.
The star of the show is undoubtedly the pistachio kunafa chocolate, an innovative twist on a classic Middle Eastern treat, crafted by Head Pastry Chef Amber-Leigh Janse van Rensburg. Offered in both milk and dark chocolate, this house-made dessert is a must-try. If you’re in the mood for something small, the pistachio bonbons deliver a punch of flavour in a bite-sized form.
Botany Café’s dessert evenings are more than just a sweet ending. They’re a reason to visit. It’s the kind of experience that makes a trip memorable.

I’m counting down the days until I get to experience this in person — dessert, sea views, and the charm of Bantry Bay all wrapped into one. Stay tuned for the full review once I’ve ticked it off my Cape Town list.
