There is something about the Mediterranean that feels instinctive rather than curated. A rhythm that moves between indulgence and restraint, between sun-soaked simplicity and unapologetic pleasure. It is this feeling that Arlecchino by tashas brings to Sea Point, a new culinary destination shaped by Italy’s generous food culture and the effortless elegance that has defined the tashas universe for nearly two decades.
Set within Cape Town’s coastal energy, Arlecchino does not aim to replicate a single Italian region. Instead, it draws on the emotional language of Mediterranean food: abundance, warmth and connection. The menu, created by Tashas Group Culinary Director Jill Okkers, interprets classic Italian flavours through a contemporary lens, grounded in quality ingredients and designed for long, lingering meals.
Founder and CEO of Tashas Group, Natasha Sideris, describes the philosophy behind the brand extension as “Mediterranean at heart but guided by instinct rather than rules. We wanted a menu that feels abundant, generous and deeply pleasurable something that encourages people to linger, share and return.”
At its core, Arlecchino reflects the group’s commitment to all-day dining, food that adapts to real human rhythms, from slow mornings to late evenings by the sea.
Breakfast at Arlecchino (8:00am–12:00pm) moves between virtue and decadence. Light, fruit-forward bowls sit alongside rich Italian-inspired classics. The Chia & Acai Bowl layers mixed berry and acai sorbet with yoghurt, chia, frozen blackberries, sweet cherries and a crisp granola tuile. On the indulgent end, the Panettone French Toast, finished with mascarpone and crème anglaise, feels like a celebration disguised as breakfast.
For something savoury, the Italian Scramble, eggs with feta, tomato, peppers, bacon, spring onion and salsiccia, anchors the menu with warmth and comfort.
“Breakfast is where people decide how they want their day to feel,” says Jill. “We wanted options that are both comforting and uplifting without ever feeling predictable.”
As the day unfolds, the menu transitions into Mediterranean-inspired plates designed for sharing. Antipasti and salads focus on freshness and texture, including the Verde Salad with rocket, parmesan, fennel, dill and crispy artichokes.
Pasta leans into comfort and craft. The Amalfi Lemon balances bright citrus with silky richness, while the Genovese takes the long route, a slow-cooked beef sauce paired with calamarata pasta.
“We wanted pastas that feel familiar but still have a point of view,” Jill explains. “Nothing overly complicated just honest, well-executed food.”
Dinner is bold, indulgent and leisurely. Seafood plays a central role, reflecting both Mediterranean tradition and Cape Town’s coastal setting. Bazaruto Prawns arrive in a spiced cherry tomato and lemon butter sauce with shoestring fries, while the 500g line-caught Branzino served with either Salsa Fuoco Di Mare or olive oil and oregano salt is designed for communal dining.
Desserts strike a balance between nostalgia and playful sophistication. The table-side Tiramisu layers dulce de leche, mascarpone cream, lady finger sponge madeleine and espresso for a moment of theatre. The Campari Jelly, with candied pistachios, vanilla custard, citrus jelly and negroni syrup, offers a grown-up take on a childhood classic.
“Dessert should feel like a reward,” says Natasha. “A little drama, a little indulgence something that makes the meal memorable.”
The beverage programme, led by Tashas Group Beverage Director Krystian Hordejuk, draws on Italian aperitivo traditions. Signature serves include the Arlecchino Spritz served on tap for precision and consistency, and the Martini Minatura, a two-sip martini designed for a quick, elegant moment. The wine list highlights standout South African and Italian producers.
Arlecchino by tashas introduces a new expression of Mediterranean café dining to Cape Town, one that values generosity, craft and atmosphere over formality. At its heart, it is about pleasure. Good food, shared tables and the quiet luxury of staying just a little longer.
