Absa’s new travel rewards programme was introduced in style last night at Lanseria Airport, where the launch had a vibrant, music-video-like atmosphere. Guests gathered inside a hangar as the bank unveiled the Absa Rewards Travel Hub, a digital travel booking platform now available on the Absa Banking App.
The media launch on 2 September 2025 showcased Absa’s latest initiative to give its loyal cardholders and Rewards members even more value, this time through exclusive travel benefits.
The headline feature is up to 100% discount on base fare for flights booked with qualifying Absa debit and credit cards, offered through a partnership with Travelstart. The platform and flight benefit will be available to the public later this month.

A New Way to Save on Travel
Instead of waiting for cash-back rewards, Absa’s new model gives discounts upfront based on a client’s Rewards Tier and card type. While the platform is open to all Absa clients, only Rewards members unlock the flight discounts.

Mikha’il Ernest, Group Chief Commercial Officer at Travelstart, said embedding Travelstart’s technology directly into the Absa Banking App was about creating seamless access to travel deals for millions of South Africans.

Raynard added that integrating the Travel Hub into the banking app, rather than keeping it as a standalone microsite, was key to reaching a wider audience.
