Upper Union is ringing in summer with a culinary celebration that doubles as an art exhibition. The eatery’s new summer menu is a vibrant exploration of colour, texture, and flavour, designed to capture the essence of the season.
“We’ve gone for a light, fresh flavour profile, taking inspiration straight from the ingredients themselves,” says Upper Union executive chef Amori Burger. “Think vibrant tomatoes, berries, pomegranates, roses, peas, Granny Smith apples, cucumbers, and watermelons. These reds and greens have shaped the menu for the season.”
This summer, Upper Union’s kitchen draws inspiration from Persian, Turkish, Indian, South African, and French cuisines, creating dishes that taste like sunshine and feel like summer itself. The result is a menu that engages all senses, visually stunning, aromatically inviting, and decadently fresh on the palate.
The seasonal offerings are served on bespoke ceramics crafted by Refiloe Seduke, founder of Studio VERDÉE, a Cape Winelands–based design house specialising in artisanal tableware. Each piece has been carefully designed in dialogue with Chef Amori’s creations, ensuring that the plates and bowls are not merely vessels but extensions of the culinary story.
