Melville has always been known for its electric nightlife, and while it still exists, so much has changed since my time exploring its buzzing streets. Some of the spots we used to party at have closed, but in their place, new eateries and hidden gems have popped up, offering a fresh take on the area’s energy. I hadn’t been back in ages, but when I came across Arturo Tequila Garden, I knew I had to return.
Located at 6, 7th Street, Melville, Arturo immediately draws you in. The moment you walk in, your eyes are pulled toward the bar area and the upstairs seating space, with the words Tequila Garden boldly displayed—letting you know this is where the best margaritas live.
To the left, a small retail section offers T-shirts, cups, and branded souvenirs, making it easy to take a piece of Arturo home with you. To the right, a massive, striking artwork stares back at you, adding an eclectic, well-traveled feel to the space. There are also Mexican hats as part of the decor, further enhancing the Afro-Latino ambiance. It’s clear that every design choice is intentional, reflecting a deep passion for culture and aesthetics.

By the way, Arturo is Black female-owned, and though we didn’t get to meet the owner, she was kind enough to host us for a bite. Her staff’s warmth and attentiveness spoke volumes—enough to know she must be just as lovely.
The Drinks: Tequila Lovers, This One’s for You
We started with cocktails—I had a Tequila Sunset, while my partner had a Paloma. Now, you cannot go wrong with tequila, and since we love tequila, this was heaven. The drinks were refreshing, perfectly balanced, and neither too strong nor too sweet—just delicious.
One of my favorite touches? Used Don Julio tequila bottles repurposed as vases for fresh flowers on the tables. Small details like these make Arturo feel special and thoughtfully curated.

The Food: A Celebration of Afro-Latino Flavours
Arturo is more than just tequila and tacos—it’s an Afro-Latino experience. On Sundays, they host Salsa and Kizomba dancing, which I definitely need to come back for!
For starters, we had stuffed jalapeños and shrimp, chorizo, and pineapple skewers. The jalapeño poppers were paired with a creamy dip that balanced the heat perfectly, but for me, the standout dish was the skewers. I’m not usually one for sweet-and-savory combos, but this one banged—the fresh pineapple, the rich chorizo, and the perfectly cooked shrimp created an explosion of flavours.
And to cleanse our palates? Tequila, of course! Maybe an unconventional choice, but when you’re at a tequila garden, you have to fully embrace the experience.
For the main course, we indulged in the Carne Asada Burrito—packed with tender, flavourful beef—and the Birria Beef Tacos, served with a deep, rich broth from the slow-cooked meat. I love how nothing goes to waste here. The flavours were bold but not overwhelming, the portions generous, and the experience unforgettable.

A One-Year Celebration & More to Come
We even got to chat with the chef, and we’ll be sharing that conversation on our socials soon! Arturo turns a year old on April 5th, and if this is the level of quality and experience they’re serving at just one year, I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
If you’re looking for good vibes, great food, and the best tequila selection in town, Arturo Tequila Garden is the place to be. Just note—they’re closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly!
