I stepped into a spotless, fresh red Citroën waiting outside Cape Grace, thinking I’d just chill at the bar after my event. But nope my driver was already there, right on time, calm and ready to roll. I tossed my bags in, slid into that spacious seat, and we hit the road toward Stellenbosch, a town I’d never even set foot in before.
As the city lights faded behind us, the skyline gave way to rolling vineyards and endless open skies. The Cape Winelands had me hooked immediately. But it wasn’t just the view that made this ride unforgettable. My driver, cool and collected, dropped a gem: he was from Scotland but here’s the twist, he’d never actually been there.
I laughed out loud. Two dreamers in one car, him rooted in Cape Town, yet chasing distant places in his mind, me chasing my own dreams of travel and storytelling. It felt like the universe was nudging me, whispering, “Keep going, your moment is coming.”
Two nights later, we took the coastal route to Steenberg. Windows down, the crisp sea breeze hit like a shot of freedom, salty, fresh, impossible to get enough of. Golden sunlight kissed the mountains, standing tall like silent sentinels. My driver shared stories of local spots, why Stellenbosch was his pride and joy, and how I had to come back soon. Trust me, I will.
But here’s the real magic: this wasn’t just about getting from point A to B. It was about knowing I had a ride I could count on, a friendly face who made me feel at ease on the road.
